SAN ANTONIO - A viewer got video of a white-cheeked gibbon (a kind of ape) escaping from an enclosure at the San Antonio Zoo on Friday.
The juvenile gibbon found a hole in the netting over the enclosure, and was able to swing on top of the netting and run to the surrounding trees.
Zoo officials closed the area and captured the gibbon unharmed just before noon.
The gibbon is a non-dangerous animal, who lives in subtropical rainforests from eastern Bangladesh and northeast India to southern China and Indonesia, and is a lesser ape.
The Zoo is doing an inspection of the enclosure to search for other compromises.
